The New Erie Cafe

Founded in 1899 by Milton Flory of Bangor and operated as a grain elevator and feed store by Sam Flory, Snyder Milling Company began life as the Flory Milling Company and continued to operate that way successfully through the 20’s and 30’s. Thomas E. Snyder managed the mill from 1910 until 1927 and during that time expanded the building and the equipment line. His son, A. Russell Snyder assumed full control in 1927 and in December of 1939 purchased the entire plant from Flory Milling Company and renamed the firm the Snyder Milling Company. In 1950, the 3-story block warehouse with grain elevator was added to the existing mill buildings to accommodate the handling and distribution of bulk feeds. The mill continued to operate into the new millennium, finally closing down in 2002. The complex exists today and has been re-adapted as apartments.
